An Acronym Stronger than MAGA

I hear a lot of acronyms, but I can’t recall one that I’ve heard as often as MAGA. Adherents to that particular way of thinking often stumble over simple questions like, “When was America not great?” There’s nothing specific about a time or era because the unspoken part is that the MAGA folks want America to be “great” back when women, minorities, and others were oppressed because straight, white men had all the privilege. And they long for that.

I’ve never accused the current administration of being smart or competent or even thinking things through so it is not surprising that they were horribly wrong on yet another issue. This time it is about their third reich like idea of concentration camps. The occupying forces round up those who don’t “look American," kidnap them, transport them away to some undisclosed location. Often in deplorable conditions. But they need to warehouse them.

The “thinking” went something like this: Red states support us. Red states hate immigrants.  Red states want immigrants gone. Red states will be glad to have concentration camps. Let’s build them in those red states.

However, the plan is not proceeding as they had hoped. Because the acronym that is stronger than MAGA is NIMBY. (Not in my back yard.)
