Can We Get Off the Wrong Path?

Steely Dan. Thomas Edison. Fat and Slow Donny Truxp.

Some see they’re on the wrong path. Steely Dan, from Can’t Buy a Thrill, sings “I’m a fool to do your dirty work, oh yeah.” They were fools, but eventually got off the wrong path.

Some have no idea what path they’re on. According to legend, Thomas Edison loved showing people around his summer residence extolling the abundance of labor saving devices. However, at one point in the “tour” the guests had to pass through a turnstile (like a subway station) to get back to the house. And the turnstile was very difficult to move. A guest asked Edison why, with all the labor saving devices around, the turnstile was so heavy. Edison said that “everyone who pushes the turnstile pumps eight gallons of water into the tank on my roof.” They unwittingly participated on that path.

Some others gladly drink the orange kool-aid and stay on the wrong path. They will wear clown shoes (see “little” Marco Rubio after getting a “gift” from Dear Leader). See cabinet member Cosplay Barbie being fired in a humiliating fashion by daring to put Dear Leader in a less than obnoxiously fawning light. See the attorney general perjure herself and protect pedophiles all to spare the Dear Leader’s friends (and probably other worse people).

I respect when people get off the wrong path by recognizing they were in the wrong; when you know better you (usually) do better. I am not bothered by those who unwittingly pushed a heavy turnstile to pump water to a roof. But to misquote The Dude, “Some things do not abide.”
