Their Most Essential Command

One’s heart is breaking again after another murder in Minneapolis. And I’m so very, very sad. But also angry. Funneling anger into action is something tangible and even in small ways, can make a difference.

In St. Paul, many organizations are helping our friends and neighbors. Our constitution observer training was at capacity so other training sessions have been added. In one local immigrant-owned grocery store they have enough people to deliver groceries so we were added to the list, assigned a slot in mid-February. There are plenty of parents and volunteers at school drop-off and pick-up, so we will have recess duty. People are getting off the sidelines.

And I think that maybe, just maybe, those on the fence are choosing a side and it’s not the orange cult. Everyone can see what happened. Everyone can see that these are murders. Everyone can see it is not self-defense. Everyone can see the truth.

Federal officials lie and try to control the narrative by calling the murdered “domestic terrorists.” While I haven’t read George Orwell’s, 1984, in years, his quote, sadly, is prescient.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” George Orwell in 1984.

But we won’t follow that command.
