OK Boomer (another insult) #156

The Insult Blogpost about Coward Kelly was a little harsh so maybe something a little more whimsical might be nice. An insult that our children have leveled (appropriately) at me is when we exhibit some kind of opinion, or even worse, some action that shows we are out-of-touch. It is a gentle rejoinder and while I get the point, it doesn’t hurt my feelings.

The most recent insult was when I was doing something with my phone and I accidentally turned on the flashlight. Eventually, I was told, “Hey Boomer. Your flashlight is on!” It is insulting, but not that hurtful

The “Boomer” insult is directed at those of the “boomer” generation and those are people between 62 and 80. Gen X doesn’t insult Boomers like the Millennials and Gen Z folks probably because Gen Xers are 47 to 61. OK Boomer is not unlike the verbal eye roll that teens know so well. I guess all generations have their own insults. If you are of a certain age and want to get an “OK Boomer” leveled at you start with: “Well, back in my day…” And then complain about avocado toast or something new.

After all we’ve gone through with the insults, misogynistic, taunts or someone’s physical handicaps or looks, and worse, leveled by some of the most powerful people it is kind of nice to take a gentle ribbing because it sure beats the cruelty of what we’ve seen.
