The Biggest Divide

We’re divided. Take the events on January 6th. Some, like I, watched it on TV and saw violence and an insurrection. Others saw it and thought it was a “day of love.” I saw videos of two Minnesotans get assassinated and some, in positions of power and authority, told us that it was defensive and the dead were actually “domestic terrorists.” Our politics have divided us.

In terms of neighborhoods and zip codes, we are divided. There are vast socioeconomic differences between cities just a few miles apart. In addition, there are vast differences between states and the health outcomes. We’re divided by location.

Finally, looking at high school and post-secondary successes, we are divided. Depending on your post-secondary achievements, there is a huge difference between your political views, your economic fortunes, and your housing options. We’re divided by education accomplishments.

However, in the Age of the Heart, the biggest divide between people today is not political, not socioeconomic, not educational, but something else. When we see the immense changes in technology, artificial intelligence, family makeup, or climate change we can easily see that the greatest need is going to be flexibility.

The biggest divide will be between those who can adapt to change and those who refuse to adapt.
