It's Good to Know Your Bearings

This famous marker in Cusco, Peru (where almost every tourist takes a picture of their feet) shows the four directions of the Inca Empire. This marker in the Inca capital was considered to be the center of the world. At the winter solstice, people from all four regions came for political unification of the Inca Empire and the Emperor, the start of the agricultural cycle with rituals to ensure a successful growing season, and cultural identity which was a cornerstone of Inca spiritual life. However, the main celebration was the Festival of the Sun. The sun god, Inti, was the most important because the sun gives life.

It’s hard for me to imagine everyone in America coming together for much of anything. Certainly not like the Inca did. True, the No Kings turnout was huge with an estimated 8 million (or more) attending rallies all across the nation, but there just doesn’t seem to be much that draws us together. Except for watching the Super Bowl.

In the Age of the Heart, I think we need to get our bearings and decide what’s important, what we stand for, and the values we want to live by. We may not have a marker that tourists will use for feet selfies, but we do have the opportunity to set a new course that is based on our bearings; let’s move forward.
